Scuderia Ferrari heads to Silverstone this weekend and the home of British motor racing for round 10 of the 2019 Formula One World Championship. Silverstone remains one of the most enjoyable circuits on the Formula One calendar and provides an exciting challenge for drivers and engineers alike. The combination of corner complexes and well-spaced straights push the cars to their limits and makes car setup and tyre management crucial.
Pirelli have provided their hardest compounds for this event, a combination last seen in Barcelona. The circuit has been resurfaced very recently and it is unclear how the tyres will behave. Therefore, this will be the first challenge facing the drivers and engineers and only once this is understood can the set-up be refined, and test components evaluated.
Scuderia Ferrari German driver Sebastian Vettel explains the Silverstone circuit and why he prefers the old parts of the track:
“Racing at Silverstone is something special for all the drivers because it’s such a cool track. There are a lot of fast sections. It is also very technical, especially in the first part of the track with the new corners.
To be honest, I still prefer the old parts with the fast flowing turns. There is one of the most epic corner sequences in Formula 1 on this circuit, with Maggotts, Becketts and Chapel leading onto the Hangar Straight. I think every driver enjoys that part and I certainly do.
We won there last year and it is also the place where Ferrari took its first race win in Formula 1 a long way back, so there is plenty of history there for all of us at Ferrari” – the four-time Formula One world champion concluded, as reported by the Maranello team’s official website earlier today.
