The 2025 season has been archived without the results the Scuderia hoped for, but at Ferrari, attention has already shifted entirely toward the future. The year 2026 will represent a definitive turning point for all of Formula 1, featuring a total regulatory overhaul that offers every team the chance to start again from a clean slate.
Taking stock of the situation was Fred Vasseur, who spoke to Sky Sport F1 to clarify the message conveyed internally to the team following the championship finale. The Team Principal admitted without hesitation that the recent season failed to live up to expectations, but he emphasized that the work completed has allowed the engineers to understand the root causes of their struggles.
A radical reset for the Scuderia
“We know that the season was not good, but 2026 is a completely different story,” Fred Vasseur explained. According to the Frenchman, the change will be radical in every single aspect: chassis, power unit, batteries, fuel, and tires. This technical reset, while maintaining much of the same workforce, will offer fresh opportunities from an organizational perspective as well.
Ferrari has decided to concentrate the bulk of its resources on the new project, significantly strengthening the collaboration between the chassis and engine departments. This is a complex undertaking that the Team Principal describes as a true engineering challenge, but also a massive chance to relaunch the team at the very top of the grid. “There is a good collaboration between chassis and engine. It is a huge challenge, but also an opportunity.”
However, Fred Vasseur is urging fans and insiders not to place too much weight on the initial results of the season. The pre-season tests in Bahrain and the season opener in Australia will only offer an initial snapshot, one that is destined to change rapidly as the year progresses. “The standings could evolve race after race because the rate of development will be enormous.”
The mindset for a new era
Ferrari’s approach for 2026 will therefore be less focused on immediate results and more on the ability to rapidly evolve the car. This shift in mentality is deemed necessary to tackle a season that promises to be more unpredictable and open than almost any other in recent memory.
The gauntlet has been thrown down. Now, as is always the case in Maranello, it will be the track that provides the final answers. With the 2026 project already in an advanced stage, the pressure is on to ensure that this technical revolution finally brings the world title back to Italy.
Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur is using the disappointment of the 2025 season as a catalyst for a total technical and mental reset heading into 2026. By treating the upcoming regulatory overhaul as a “completely different story,” the French manager is prioritizing a deep integration between the chassis and engine departments to exploit the new power unit and aero rules. While the initial pecking order in Australia remains a mystery, Ferrari’s strategy focuses on a high rate of development to ensure they remain flexible and competitive throughout what is expected to be an incredibly volatile and unpredictable season.
