Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz had a difficult race at the Circuit Zandvoort, as he struggled with tyre issues, but also a damaged floor, due to a contact with the Mercedes W13 of Lewis Hamilton in the start of the Dutch Grand Prix. To make matters worse, the Spaniard lost an extra ten seconds during his first pit stop due to a confusion when the call was made and then received a five-second penalty for a controversial unsafe release in his second pit stop, despite the fact that Carlos had to slow down to avoid some McLaren mechanics.
The Spanish driver will be hoping for a better outcome next weekend in the Italian Grand Prix, but most likely he will have to overcome a grid penalty at the Monza circuit. In his first weekend at home, at Monza, with the Tifosi in the stands, Carlos Sainz will have to make another recovery race: “We are all having problems and we know that sooner or later we will have take other penalties. However, we hope to only have to take five or ten and not start from the back of the grid.” – In this way, Mattia Binotto, in a very vague way, commented on the possibility that Carlos Sainz will be penalized in less than seven days. No official confirmation then, but not even any denial, a simple answer “Nothing planned, we will analyze and evaluate”.
According to F1 experts Piergiuseppe Donadoni and Giuliano Duchessa for formu1a.uno, the penalty for the Spaniard at Monza is certain, even if the type of penalty is in question for the moment: only for the hybrid or for an entirely new power unit on his F1-75 car.
Scuderia Ferrari has considered that Monza, taking into consideration the next tracks, is the circuit where overtaking is the least difficult, albeit not very easy given that all the cars will be in ultra-low configuration. After the Italian stage, however, Singapore and Suzuka will follow on the calendar, certainly two much more difficult circuits in terms of overtaking.

The Spaniard himself shared some information: “Soon we will have to change the engine and take penalties, with a lighter unit and this will certainly give us a hand, because we are still a little overweight”. Always very honest Carlos Sainz, who therefore directed the journalists to address more specific questions to his boss Mattia Binotto, who explained: “I can confirm that what Carlos is talking about is the new hybrid system (introduced at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps with Charles Leclerc) which is a significant improvement from the point of view of weight saving”.
The weight reduction of the new components is significant, about 2Kg, which would bring the F1-75 very close to the minimum weight. On the basis of the data collected, the overall gain in terms of performance (weight-battery efficiency) can be estimated at around 2 tenths.
