Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto‘s statement regarding the performance of the Italian side today:
“We didn’t expect that. The testing was better. The whole weekend we had no grip and problems with tyres. We need to understand why. The important thing for us today was to score points and take both cars to the finish line. We have not found a good balance of the car during the whole weekend.” – the Ferrari boss explained.
“I believe that today’s race reflects what happened in qualifying yesterday. We have a lot of data now and we will try to understand what happened. One thing that we are sure of is that this is not the real potential of our car. Our car has greater potential, which for some reason here in Australia we could not exploit and show. This track is different from the others and from Barcelona, which has a much smoother asphalt and different conditions. We were the ones who were out of place. If you look at yesterday’s grid standings, you see that we were too close to those behind us and too far away from those in front of us, while all the others were consistent with what we saw in Barcelona testing. We were the ones out of place. We must regain what this car and our drivers deserve. We must return home with the right humility and analyze everything. I don’t think there is a single problem, but many different aspects we need to put together. It will be our duty to come back strong in Bahrain.” – Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto concluded, at the end of the 2019 Australian Grand Prix.
