Scuderia Ferrari breaks its silence after the events which took place at the Canadian Grand Prix. Team Principal Mattia Binotto took the floor and gave an exclusive interview to Marco Franzelli for RAI 2’s TG2.
The team principal has formalized what was anticipated by the media on Thursday, which is that the Maranello team will not present an appeal to the FIA Court, but at the same time the Italian side intends to go ahead and is considering an alternative action plan rather than pushing on with its original intention. The FIA’s own International Sporting Code gives competitors an option for a post-event review of decisions, providing that new evidence that was not available at the time has come to light. The code states that the period during which a petition for review can happen is 14 days after the final classification was made, which means the Maranello team has until race day of the French Grand Prix to go down this route.
If Ferrari goes ahead with a review case, then it will need to lodge what new evidence it has and present this to the FIA, who will then convene either the stewards from the Canadian GP or replacements to meet to discuss the matter.
“For our part, considering the images and data we have available, we are convinced that there were no misconduct. Sebastian made a mistake on the way out but I think he only tried to recover the car, slow down, and get back on track more safely.” – he explained.
Ferrari has not appealed to the FIA, but wants a review of the proceedings..
“For our part we are collecting all available data, trying to bring new elements to eventually have a different decision. We will see in what form and in what way, but surely we are working hard on this.”
What effect will this situation have on Sebastian Vettel?
“Knowing Sebastian, he will come out stronger than before.”
Sebastian’s reaction showed a moment of authenticity in F1..
“Yes it has been, I think his reaction is understandable at that time and is also appreciated.”

What is the main quality of Charles Leclerc?
“Charles is a fighter, as a fighter he always wants to be first.”
What will the French GP be like?
“For the moment it is difficult to make predictions. I myself before Canada would not have bet on us for pole position or on our victory. I think France will be a more difficult track for us. It looks more like Barcelona than Canada, but we also know we want to do well and measure ourselves with a little bit of more confidence.”
