F1 tries to avoid the storm in Miami
Just a few hours after qualifying, Formula 1 made the decision to move the start of the Miami Grand Prix forward by three hours, in an attempt to avoid the heavy rain forecast that had been expected around 16:00 local time.
The race will now begin at 13:00 in Miami, 19:00 CET. However, weather forecasts still show a 40% chance of rain at the start, rising to 60% during the race itself.
Vasseur takes a subtle swipe at rivals
Speaking to DAZN Spain, Ferrari team principal Frédéric Vasseur made a pointed remark about the rest of the grid.
“Some teams tried the Pirelli wet tyres, while others chose not to do so in Barcelona. They had the option, and they decided not to,” said the French manager.
He was referring to January 27, during the second day of pre-season testing in Barcelona, when rain affected the session. Only Ferrari (121 laps) and Red Bull (78 laps) ran on track, while the other nine teams stayed in the garages.
Joke about Red Bull’s “Macarena” rear wing
Vasseur also allowed himself a light-hearted comment when asked about Red Bull’s rear wing solution.
“The Macarena? For using the name they should probably pay us something,” he joked. “I’ll speak to Laurent Mekies about it. In the end, we are all focused on development, taking photos of other cars and trying to learn. That’s life.”
In summary, Frederic Vasseur’s comments highlight the strategic divide in the paddock ahead of a potentially wet Miami Grand Prix, emphasizing Ferrari’s extensive wet-weather preparation while lightheartedly acknowledging the constant technical cross-pollination between top teams like Red Bull and the Scuderia.
