Yesterday, Charles Leclerc was in his native Monaco as part of the build up for the Monaco Grand Prix, when he will be very much the centre of attention. The race, on 26 May, is the next but one on the championship, a fortnight after the Spanish Grand Prix, which takes place a week this Sunday.
With the media. Charles spoke to French and Monegasque media in the Race Control Tower, made available by the Automobile Club de Monaco, explaining how much he was looking forward to his first appearance in Monaco as a Scuderia Ferrari Mission Winnow driver. Then he got into a red Ferrari Portofino to take TV crews for a lap of the track, before going on to one of his favourite spots, the beach at Larvotto.
Memories. Charles showed the journalists the terrace at the Ste Devote corner, from which, as a child, he watched the cars go through the first corner after the start line. It was there, while playing with model Formula 1 cars on an imaginary track and watching the real ones driven by Michael Schumacher, Mika Hakkinen and Rubens Barrichello, rushing past at high speed, that the first spark was born linking the Ferrari driver to this sport.
Model on a yacht. This busy day for the driver of Ferrari number 16 continued after lunch, when Charles took part in a photo shoot for the Ferrari Store collection on board a beautiful Riva yacht. At the end of the day, Leclerc headed home to start focusing on the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix, which takes place on the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit, last used by all the Formula 1 teams during pre-season testing.
