The 2025 Formula 1 season will undoubtedly look a lot different compared to the last for Ferrari.
While there have been some obvious changes, there have been others that not all hardcore race fans may realize are taking place.
Casual observers will perhaps know about it being the first year in which Lewis Hamilton will be driving for the team. It’s an exciting time for the team and enthusiasts, as they’ll get to see the seven-time World Champion compete in the red – a move that had shocked many when it was first announced and something that many still can’t get their heads around.

Ferrari’s changes to their vehicle

There are changes that have been known for a while and are fairly radical, while there are some that are more subtle. For instance, the change the team has decided to make in turning from push-rod suspension at the front of the car to using pull-rods. At the same time, this change has come with a re-design of the front of chassis.
The team hasn’t decided to change the rear suspension pull-rods, as these remain in place. However, the kinematics of the car’s rear is expected to change, with the gearbox expected to be further shortened.
Elsewhere, Ferrari is expected to be changing the position of the sidepod air inlets. In the 2024 edition of the car, they were placed further forward. In this year’s car, they are expected to be shrunk and placed further back to try and deal with turbulence generated by the vehicle’s front wheels that can create instability and resistance.
Ferrari looking to improve once again
There is no doubt that Ferrari made great strides last season with their SF-24 car, having arguably made the most progress behind McLaren, hence why the two teams finished in the top-two spots of the constructors’ championship standings.
The SF-24 model was consistent in helping them to reach their goals on each track, with the lengthening of the fuel tank area and the shortening of the gearbox by approximately 5cm was enough to help them evolve and adapt further.
Much of the layout of the car had remained unchanged, although engineers managed to modify weight distribution within the limits that have been set by regulations, increasing the vehicle dynamics in the process.
Now, with the 2025 season approaching and a new driver on board, it might be an exciting time for Ferrari and perhaps one that can be successful for the first time in a very long time.
