Scuderia Ferrari is reportedly working on a new contract for Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc. It’s been a positive season for the the 21-year-old driver in his first year with the Maranello team, with a strong display in many races, most recently on Spa, where Charles scored his first Formula One win and now in Monza, taking pole-position in front of Ferrari’s Italian fans.
Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto has said on multiple occasions recently, including at Monza, that four-time Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel is staying put for the 2020 season, thus confirming Ferrari’s line-up for next year,
But at the same time La Gazzetta dello Sport quotes him as saying that Charles Leclerc is “an investment for the future”. The same Italian sports daily claims a new contract is even in the works. Reportedly, Charles Leclerc is making EUR 2 million in 2019, which is set to rise to EUR 3m in 2020.
However, La Gazzetta dello Sport said a EUR 9 million per year deal, excluding bonuses for race wins or the world championship, may soon be on Charles Leclerc’s table.
