Ferrari won’t bring updates for Jeddah, but are confident F1-75 still has potential to unlock. Ferrari won't bring updates for Jeddah.

Scuderia Ferrari Ferrari leads the two Formula 1 world rankings after showing a rather clear technical supremacy in the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix, the first round of the new championship. The F1-75 heads to Saudi Arabia after the splendid one-two finish at the Bahrain International circuit, with Charles Leclerc on top for the Maranello team and Carlos Sainz in second place, confirming the feeling that the F1-75 car is currently ahead of its rivals in terms of development and at least for the time being is able to enjoy this advantage.

The Italian side will not bring any major updates to the Jeddah Corniche Circuit for the second round of the 2022 Formula 1 season, but instead the Maranello team will continue to work on discovering and understanding its F1-75 car: “There will be no developments for Jeddah” – Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto explained ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix – “The most important aspect in this start to the season will be to better understand the car to make the most of it, because there is still a lot of potential in the F1-75 itself. Then we will bring some of the developments that we are working on, but we will introduce them only when we are sure they are good enough to help us make the right step forward” – the Ferrari boss added.

Throughout pre-season testing, as we focus on lap times and long runs there is always a caveat added that we don’t truly know what any team is doing until we get to qualifying at the first race. Then, every car is at its absolute fastest – low fuel and full power – and we see what the raw pace is like.

But that raw pace is only specific to that first track, and the characteristics of the Bahrain International Circuit reward top speed, good traction and a car that’s strong in low-speed corners. Now the question remains whether Scuderia Ferrari’s incredible start and one-two finish last weekend is a sign of things to come for the rest of the campaign, or if it will prove to be one of the Scuderia’s strongest venues and Red Bull will move to the fore elsewhere. Similarly, Mercedes might be in the mix on smoother tracks where they can run their W13 car lower without it being unsettled by the bumps.

Scuderia Ferrari have been quick in Sakhir at certain moments from the past while not being strong for the entire championship, but in 2022 it finally feels like the Italian side really does have the potential to be title contenders, so Jeddah could show is a clearer picture of what’s to come.
