Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc is running an upgraded Ferrari engine this weekend and will start Sunday’s Russian Grand Prix at Sochi Autodrom from the back of the grid due to the fact that it is the fourth power unit Charles has used during the 2021 Formula One season.
Teammate Carlos Sainz is still using the old unit for the time being and will most likely get the upgraded power unit in the next round, the Turkish Grand Prix in two weeks’ time.
Piergiuseppe Donadoni, Formula 1 Technical Analyst for Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera, provides some updates regarding Charles Leclerc new power unit: it seems that the engine will not be squeezed to its full power this weekend (Sochi) due to reliability concerns. In Sochi, we will only see an increase of 8hp compared to the previous engine. But more towards the end of the season, we will see its full power.
