After a dramatic 2020 Formula 1 season, Scuderia Ferrari will have to work hard to make the following year a success. According to the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport, the team will be inspired by the Red Bull Racing car.
The 2020 season has been the worst season for Scuderia Ferrari in years. This is something that the team normally can’t use, especially after the accusations of cheating in 2019. Team boss Binotto will have to work a miracle to succeed in 2021.
According to editor Paolo Filisetti, the regulations for next season will be a challenge. “The internal part of the suspension, chassis and cooling are parts that should be similar to the 2020 design and should be transferred to the new car,” he explained, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Italian side will therefore have to take steps in the field of aerodynamics in particular, for which, according to the newspaper, the team will use the Red Bull Racing philosophy. “In terms of change in aerodynamics, we are seeing a thinner front end on the SF21. In terms of cooling, the bodywork will be thinner. This accentuated curvature tells Ferrari will follow the Red Bull philosophy”.
In addition to the changes in aerodynamics, the Maranello team will also have to work on the diffuser. According to the regulations, the diffuser has to be five centimeters higher. Paolo Filisetti claims that that problem alone is largely solved. “Ferrari plans to use a solution similar to the one at the end of 2020, with an emphasis on the center of the diffuser”. During the winter test we will find out if the changes have affected the position of Ferrari in relation to the other teams.
