Scuderia Ferrari roars back in Formula 1 at Monza, but Charles Leclerc makes an appeal to fans and those involved. The victory in the Italian Grand Prix, while significant, could represent a sweet illusion. The results of the next Grands Prix, starting with Baku, will be crucial. The future of the 2024 Formula 1 Championship is at stake, of course, but so are expectations for next season.
Before the Italian Grand Prix, Ferrari’s last victory was in Monaco. Two victories with immense historical weight but, at the same time, representing a certain uniqueness among the tracks on the calendar. The characteristics of the streets of the Principality, as well as those of the Temple of Speed, are not well-suited to the more traditional circuits, where the SF-24 struggled during the European summer.
Even the first win of the year, Carlos Sainz’s victory at the Albert Park circuit in Australia, confirms Ferrari’s ability to adapt to atypical circuits. The challenge now lies in drawing inspiration from the work done at McLaren. The MCL38 single-seater, for quite a few races now, has been the most versatile car on the grid, showing consistent performances on almost every circuit since Miami.
This versatility is still lacking in the SF-24 or, at least, remains to be proven. For this reason, in a press conference, Charles Leclerc tried to temper easy enthusiasm: “We shouldn’t rely on the race we just had. And, as a team, it’s very important for us that once we get back to the factory tomorrow, we reset everything that happened over the weekend.” – he pointed out.
“We need to put emotions aside and start again from Baku without having overly high expectations,” the Monegasque continued. “Monza is a very particular track. We were very strong this weekend, but Baku will probably be very different, and Singapore again very different. As we saw from Monaco to Montreal, there was a big change from one weekend to the next.” – the Ferrari driver added.
“It’s very important that not only the team’s expectations but also the external ones don’t go crazy from one race to another because that’s not realistic. Have we made a step forward? Yes. Is it enough to win races until the end of the season? Not yet.” – Scuderia Ferrari Monegasque driver Charles Leclerc concluded.
