“Ferrari vs Mercedes” could be the last major showdown in this Formula 1 Constructors’ World Championship and Carlos Sainz has ignited the battle. The Spanish driver, interviewed at the Brazilian Grand Prix press conference, discussed the Maranello team’s chances of beating Mercedes and explained what needs improvement after Mexico.
The battle between Ferrari and Mercedes is keeping the Constructors’ World Championship alive. The Maranello and Brackley teams are separated by only 22 points, with three more events remaining in the 2023 Formula One season. Last weekend in Mexico, the Scuderia Ferrari team locked out the front row but struggled in the race. Although both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz managed to keep George Russell behind, the fight against Lewis Hamilton seems more challenging.
“They have a slight advantage: they are 22 points ahead, and that’s not a small margin,” Carlos Sainz stated. “Points are scored on Sundays, and it seems that we are having more difficulties compared to them. But we are managing to put pressure on them, and they can’t afford mistakes. We would be ready to take advantage of them.”
“It’s an enjoyable battle; we are always very close in the race,” the Spanish driver continued. “Usually, they are the ones chasing us and then overtaking us. We hope to reverse this and finish ahead of them. That’s how points are earned.”

Regarding the SF-23’s race pace, Carlos Sainz was straightforward: “It’s our weak point, it has been that way throughout the season. There is also some inconsistency in the stints: we’ve had some very good ones, while others went poorly depending on the tire compounds and track conditions. We are working hard on this aspect, also with an eye toward the next season.” – the Ferrari man concluded ahead of the Brazilian Grand Prix, which takes place this weekend at the 4.309-kilometre Autódromo José Carlos Pace, better known as Autódromo de Interlagos.
