McLaren driver Oscar Piastri recently shared his thoughts on the prospect of Lewis Hamilton winning the Formula 1 World Championship with Ferrari, a scenario that has captured the attention of motorsport fans worldwide.
Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari: a historic change?
From his first visit to Ferrari’s headquarters in Maranello earlier this year, Lewis Hamilton’s transfer has been a focal point in F1 discussions. The seven-time world champion faces the enormous challenge of becoming Ferrari’s first title winner since Kimi Räikkönen in 2007.
As Oscar Piastri pointed out, the excitement surrounding Hamilton’s potential success is undeniable, but he tempered it with a dose of realism.
Oscar Piastri’s view on Lewis Hamilton’s title chances
When asked whether Lewis Hamilton winning in his debut year with Ferrari would be an extraordinary achievement, Oscar Piastri’s response was blunt. “No, it wouldn’t be incredible. What are you talking about?” However, he added an interesting perspective. “I have to admit, though, that if I weren’t racing in F1, seeing Lewis Hamilton win a world championship with Ferrari would be really cool.”
At the end of the 2024 season, McLaren and Ferrari emerged as the two dominant forces in Formula 1. Only 13 points separated the teams, with the Woking-based outfit clinching the Constructors’ Championship in Abu Dhabi.
Despite McLaren’s strong mid-season development, some strategic errors hindered their performance in crucial moments. Ferrari, on the other hand, faced challenges due to a mid-season upgrade that backfired. However, they managed to close the season with significant progress.
Now, both McLaren and Ferrari are gearing up for another intense championship battle in 2025.
