Scuderia Ferrari did not bring significant updates in this start of the 2022 Formula 1 season, after the various background specifications tested during the six days of pre-season testing, which took place at the Circuit de Catalunya and in Bahrain. As confirmed by Italian journalists and F1 experts Giuliano Duchessa and Piergiuseppe Donadoni for formu1a.uno, the first aerodynamic development innovations should be introduced by the Maranello team between Melbourne (Australian Grand Prix) and Imola (Emilia Romagna Grand Prix), which have been validated with the positive results and data in terms of correlation gathered during the Montmelo and Bahrain testing session.
The first update is represented by a floor with new features compared to the first two rounds of the 2022 Formula One championship, which aims at increasing the F1-75 car’s aero efficiency and downforce. The Maranello technicians are confident that they will be able to minimize aerodynamic bouncing more and more, so as to slowly reduce the floor heights and increase performance even in medium-fast corners, as well as being able to use wings with less drag. This is an upgrade that could also be evaluated from an Imola perspective. In fact, the update will not necessarily remain on the F1-75 cars for the qualifying sessions on Saturday and for Sunday’s race at the Albert Park circuit. In fact, gathering data during the Friday practice sessions in Melbourne is much more important to validate the improvements seen in the wind tunnel and with the computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
Another expected novelty is an update of the front wing, more efficient, which means that with the same downforce it should be able to reduce drag and increase top speed. This would be very useful for an F1-75 car that does not have the aerodynamic efficiency one of its strengths, as reported by formu1a.uno
