Home » Ferrari to make significant power increase with PU2 scheduled for 2022 Spanish GP – report

Ferrari to make significant power increase with PU2 scheduled for 2022 Spanish GP – report. Ferrari to make significant power increase with PU2.

Despite the fundamental diversity of regulations from which they arise, some first impressions of the F1-75 qualities and strenghts are reminiscent of the SF70H. Why? Because both cars showed a great ability to quickly adapt to all conditions, temperatures and compounds. They are cars which apparently do no seem super efficient but have an excellent basic balance that makes them easy to drive, according to Formula 1 journalist and F1 analyst Giuliano Duchessa.

What Ferrari lacked 5 years ago was (also) an engine at the level of Mercedes for the entire Formula 1 world championship, especially in the second part of the year, after the now well-known clarification by the FIA on the oil used as fuel ( TD004 / 17) upon request by Mercedes.

Ferrari has invested a lot of time, resources and effort to be able to present a strong Power Unit at the start of the 2022 Formula 1 world championship. A job that was very important, more than one could believe. The technicians say it in a low voice but Ferrari is sure to be the engine manufacturer who has recovered more power than last season, despite the introduction of E10 fuels. It seems that Mattia Binotto’s team is also playing on the strategy front, not wanting to show the true power of their unit at the beginning of the season. “We are more interested in finishing the reliability data collection program, at least until race 5 [Miami]” – formu1a.uno reports.

In Maranello, the data confirm this: not only has Ferrari approached the power levels of the 2021 unit but they can ultimately go further and increase it when they will have finished the engine reliability program with the first power unit introduced this year, unlocking more performance with engine number 2. They think a more significant advantage could be visible in the months to come with the next unit, from Spain if Miami remains the program deadline as it collects reliability data, to counter the significant weight updates that Red Bull will introduce and an eventual return of Mercedes in the fight for the top spots.

Without forgetting the updates allowed to the electrical parts of the various engines, in terms of specifications, by 1 September. Ferrari also still has that wild card to play, albeit less important than the one used in Russia last season which saw the introduction of an ERS with a new high-voltage architecture. This remains the basis on which Ferrari is working, trying to optimize it in order to then be able to homologate it until the 2025 Formula One season.
