Scuderia Ferrari will not bring any major updates in the next round of the 2022 Formula 1 season, the Australian Grand Prix, but the Maranello team plans to introduce some important upgrades to their F1-75 2022 car ahead of the first European event race of the championship, the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, as reported by Motorsport Italay earlier today.
While Red Bull will attempt to bring new parts that should help them save weight as a result of the substantially heavier cars that have been designed based on the new technical rules and regulations, Scuderia Ferrari are set to use a new floor specification. This update is intended to improve the porpoising issues which currently forces the Maranello team to give up part of the downforce as to avoid damaging the floor.
According to the Italian report, Scuderia Ferrari has decided to split the upgrades between the two drivers to ensure that Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz receive the new spec parts at the same time.
Thus will be the first stage of in-season development which will be key to success in 2022, but Scuderia Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto is wary of the $140 million budget cap this F1 campaign, so he is acutely aware of the need for circumspection before spending money on new components: “It’s not just a question of being ready to bring new parts, with the budgets capped we have to be sure that we don’t spend all our money in the first races of the season. There are therefore no major developments to be expected during the next races and in particular in Melbourne, but we will do it as soon as possible. These capped budgets will have a significant influence on the pace of development. I think that’s a key element and what concerns me is having the right approach because it could be decisive in this development race.” – Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto explained, ahead of the 2022 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix.

The Maranello team could also use more power in the future, but will not deploy it for reliability reasons at this time: “Yes, we knew that Ferrari would start cautiously in using high-speed power,” said Italian journalist Giuliano Duchessa – “This does not mean that it will increase it now, on the contrary, managing is the plan, i.e. increasing the power only on tracks where the car should shine less. But that doesn’t seem the case in Jeddah.”
