According to German automobile magazine ‘Auto Motor und Sport’, it seems that Scuderia Ferrari and Renault are willing to take into consideration an engine development stop under certain conditions. One of the conditions is that the development stop arrives at the beginning of the 2022 Formula One season and not at the end of the 2021 championship.
That means the engine manufacturers would get an additional chance to upgrade their engines, which is important since they will use E10 fuel instead of E5 fuel. The engines need to be adjusted.
The other condition is that the new engine regulations will be brought forward from 2026 to 2025. In this case the plan is that the electric engine will then contribute 60 % of the total output. And a postponement of the CO2-free fuels to 2025.
