The qualifying session for the 2024 Formula 1 British Grand Prix at the Silverstone circuit reveals a worrying fact for Fred Vasseur‘s Ferrari.
There were high expectations for the update package that Ferrari introduced in recent weeks. After Charles Leclerc’s victory on the streets of Monte Carlo in Monaco, fans hoped to challenge Red Bull with the SF.24 EVO. However, the track told a different story, and the Silverstone Grand Prix qualifying revealed a nightmare for Ferrari.
The team led by Frederic Vasseur entered the first practice session with two different cars to evaluate the difference between the new and old packages. The result was certainly not positive, as Charles Leclerc failed to enter Q3 while Carlos Sainz finished in seventh position, behind Nico Hulkenberg.
Two Ferrari cars behind a Haas in the qualifying session for the British Grand Prix reflect the current situation in the Scuderia’s garage. Ferrari is dealing with an SF-24 that has not provided the desired responses, thus lowering the fans’ expectations.
Of course, there is still the race to be held. Silverstone’s uncertain weather could overturn what was seen on Saturday and turn post-qualifying criticism into praise. However, the feeling is that Ferrari has entered a negative loop that needs to be addressed. Mercedes and McLaren have shown that it is possible to reach Red Bull. Now it is up to Frederic Vasseur and his Maranello team to do so in order to quickly return to the level they had at the beginning of the 2024 Formula 1 season.
