Excellent performance for Charles Leclerc in the qualifying session for the 2021 British Grand Prix sprint race, a lot more difficult afternoon for Carlos Sainz. If the Monegasque driver managed to find the ideal performance, the former McLaren driver, on the other hand, suffered from a lack of grip on the most important moments. In fact, just look at his time in Q2 which, transported to Q3, would have earned him 5th place behind his teammate. These problems are easily highlighted thanks to the telemetry relating to Speed in the second and third sector. At Luffield and Stowe, in fact, Carlos Sainz falls significantly behind. The turns in question are both “front-limited”. Consequently, in order to have a good performance, it is essential to have a good level of grip at the front.

Another significant point where the Spaniard pays in terms of time is at the top of the 13. Having a very reactive and well balanced car in these changes of direction is crucial for obtaining a competitive time lap. The Becketts is also the slowest of the 3. Tackling its distance in the best way means being able to reach competitive speeds on the Hangar Straight.
If we examine the telemetric graphs of the changes and revolutions of the Italian engine, the “hindrances” encountered by Carlos Sainz out of turn 13 emerge.

At this point Charles is able to use a lower gear on the number 16 car. By doing so, the Monegasque can turn up the engine and the result is much better output traction than Carlos.
Finally, evaluating the graph obtained thanks to the data extrapolated from the use that the Ferrari drivers make of the accelerator, the effort of the Spanish driver in grounding the horses of his Ferrari SF21 stands out.

Charles Leclerc, in fact, opens the throttle early and manages to be decidedly more aggressive than his teammate who, in turn, is forced to take a gentler approach on the accelerator pedal. In the mini race that will be held today at Silverstone, Carlos will have the opportunity to make up for it, finding the right grip that allows him to use the full potential of his car.
