Vasseur Admits Ferrari Must Unlock SF-25 Potential After Disappointing Miami GP
Ferrari Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur acknowledged that the Scuderia must urgently find the correct setup balance for the SF-25, as their early-season inconsistencies persisted at the Miami Grand Prix. The race saw Charles Leclerc finish seventh, while Lewis Hamilton — behind the wheel of the other SF-25 single-seater — crossed the line just behind in eighth, adding to Ferrari’s recent run of underwhelming results.
Fred Vasseur reflected on the weekend, stating that the team had failed to optimise the car’s balance, particularly during qualifying, which compromised their track position and limited their options during the race. The former Alfa Romeo team boss noted that Ferrari struggled to make progress from the middle of the pack, which significantly hampered their chances of securing a stronger result.
The French manager admitted the outcome was difficult to accept, especially given the considerable time gap to the front. Ferrari ended the race nearly a full minute behind the race winner, a deficit Fred Vasseur described as substantial. He added that McLaren’s performance appeared to be in a league of its own, underlining how far ahead their rivals were on the day.
Despite the setbacks, Fred Vasseur highlighted that Ferrari’s pace in clean air was comparable to that of Mercedes and Red Bull, suggesting that the underlying performance of the SF-25 is not fundamentally lacking. However, he emphasised that the team must remain focused and continue to work methodically to overcome the car’s current limitations.
Fred Vasseur concluded that although frustration was understandable after such a race, Ferrari’s focus must now shift to gradual, consistent progress to close the gap to their front-running competitors.
