Scuderia Ferrari tested a new floor both in FP1 and FP2 at the Portimao Circuit ahead of the 2021 Portuguese Grand Prix. Previous 4-element device now at least 6-element, and longer chord overall for the updated floor, which was used by Carlos Sainz in the second free practice session, after Charles Leclerc got the chance to test it in the morning session.
Both finished P4 when they used the new floor, showing that the Ferrari update was efficient.
The work in the wind tunnel is proceeding in an attempt to recover the aerodynamic load lost due to the cut of the downforce and the indications are positive. Ferrari is playing ahead: in Imola the Maranello team has brought the first version of the floor that should have debuted in Portugal, while in Algarve it anticipated a solution that will only debut in Barcelona.
The Italian side has managed to prepare only an updated floor, so it will not be used over the weekend to avoid favoritism among the drivers, but we will see it in Spain next week.
