Ferrari wraps up Day 2 of the Bahrain F1 tests with encouraging signs: Charles Leclerc’s numbers give the team reason to smile. In this second day of the six-day pre-season program, Leclerc took center stage, driving in both the morning and afternoon sessions and improving his times session by session.
The Monegasque driver secured first place with a lap of 1:34.273, ahead of newly crowned world champion Lando Norris, who posted 1:34.784. Third place went to Oliver Bearman with a time of 1:35.394.
These results at the end of Day 2 offer optimism for Ferrari, which will have Lewis Hamilton on track tomorrow.
Mercedes powerful but Ferrari proves reliable
After yesterday’s strong showing, Mercedes faced problems today with its power unit, limiting Kimi Antonelli to just three laps in the morning session. In contrast, Leclerc completed lap after lap without any technical issues. Ferrari-powered teams also performed well, with Haas and Oliver Bearman finishing the day with the third fastest time.
George Russell had to settle for fourth in a day that was not ideal for Mercedes. Fifth went to Isack Hadjar, while Audi impressed with Gabriel Bortoleto in sixth. Alpine showed progress with Pierre Gasly securing a competitive seventh place.
Which power unit covered the most laps on Day 2?
Despite Mercedes’ technical issues, the brand’s power units dominated in total laps due to their presence across four teams. Mercedes-powered cars logged a total of 434 laps, including Norris’ 149. Ferrari-powered cars followed with 276 laps, counting 139 from Charles Leclerc and 130 from Ollie Bearman. Red Bull Ford-powered cars came in third with 220 laps. Audi completed 114 laps between its two drivers, while Honda finished last with Alonso’s 98 laps.
