In two days there will be the first official Ferrari presentation but only for the team and it could also deal with non-Formula 1 topics. An unusual decision that will divide the events into two moments: that of 26 February and the second, more awaited, where the Ferrari SF21 will be unveiled.
At the first appointment, some changes to the Ferrari organization chart could be confirmed, which in some respects have already been seen at the end of last year. Mattia Binotto had chosen to be less present on track and more in the factory to follow the changes to the design of the SF1000 first, then of the future SF21, and to better manage / insert some new technicians.
A course with many obstacles that required clear guidance, as the SF21 in some areas is more than just an evolution. Thinking about the new rear axle, for example, which we will discuss better in due course.
With the 2022 project that will really come to life in a few weeks, the Mattia Binotto has decided to make the same decision as last year: less track and more presence in the factory. Regarding the organization on the race weekends, with Binotto’s absence there will be a sort of Deputy Team Principal who will be Laurent Mekies, now the right arm of the Swiss-Italian engineer, who will have a clear and greater responsibility – but also authority – at the team.
Inaki Rueda will remain responsible for the strategies, also assuming the role of sporting director, in a nutshell the one who talks to the FIA for purely sporting – regulatory aspects. A role where a certain difference can be made because it is often called upon to foil penalties or to have strokes of genius to manage them. You will remember Stefano Domenicali DS when he sent Michael Schumacher to win in the pit lane at Silverstone serving the penalty but without serving it.
What will the SF21 be like
The SF21 will be unveiled on March 10 in Bahrain. As anticipated by Formu1a.uno, the following day the classic shakedown will be held on the track where the collective winter tests will take place from 12 to 14 March.
It should present in addition to the new gearbox and the redesigned suspension attachments where the tokens were spent, the major aerodynamic innovations in the central part (floor and sides) of the car. That said, the competitiveness of the car will heavily depend on the new power unit. And there is optimism.
The livery.
After the questionable orange red of the SF90 and the red already more faithful to the tradition of the SF1000, the new SF21 will have a double shade of red. According to the Italian article, the red colour gets darker (similar to their Mugello livery) as you go to the top.
We will see what effect it will have. The Ferrari SF21, the last to be released in public, will be the most awaited as always.
