First laps for the Ferrari SF-26: Gualtieri on the Power Unit
The new SF-26 is finally here. Ferrari has unveiled its first next-generation car, with immediate focus on the Power Unit. The Maranello team completed the first laps at Fiorano, with Lewis Hamilton at the wheel. While Frédéric Vasseur spoke of a “team more united than ever,” Enrico Gualtieri shared the philosophy applied to the engine of the Prancing Horse. A project approached with “discipline and respect.”
The F1 winter is officially over: at Fiorano, the roar of the SF-26 Power Unit resounds. This ambitious project is crucial for the future of the Scuderia, laying the foundation for a season as protagonists. The current goal is to fully understand the car, from engine performance to aerodynamic details, in preparation for the first race in Australia.
Gualtieri: “The Power Unit is a complex technical challenge”
The Power Unit will play a key role. Ferrari approached this new technical challenge with a clear strategy, explains Technical Director Enrico Gualtieri: “With the 2026 regulations, the Power Unit is more than ever an integrated part of the car concept.”
“The significant increase in the role of the electrical component, the introduction of 99% sustainable fuel, and the removal of the MGU-H represent a clear change in philosophy, not just a simple evolution like the one we experienced from 2014 to 2025. This forced us to rethink the engine architecture from the very beginning, working on efficiency, integration, and energy management, always in close collaboration with colleagues from the Chassis team.”
“It is a complex technical challenge, which we have faced with great respect, discipline, and the goal of optimizing the entire car system throughout the season,” concludes the engineer.
