A problem that’s already known and encountered in the past: what happened to Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari fuel tank in Qatar is not new to the team, and concerns are rising in Austin?
The Spanish driver of the Prancing Horse was forced to watch the Losail Grand Prix from the sidelines, leaving the 12th grid spot empty just before the race due to a car malfunction. Carlos Sainz, during the Thursday press conference in Austin, discussed the fuel tank problem, a well-known Achilles’ heel for which Ferrari is trying to find a remedy.
Tom Clarkson’s question, the conference host, is direct and gets right to the point: “After the non-start in Qatar, do you have any concerns about reliability on the eve of this weekend?”
Asked about the issue in Losail, Carlos Sainz responds with relative calm: “No. We’ve changed many parts of the car to try to address the problem we had in Qatar.” – the Ferrari driver pointed out ahead of the United States Grand Prix in Austin.
Carlos Sainz’s confidence then gives way to a deeper analysis of a recurring problem: “We’re trying to find long-term solutions, not just short-term ones. It’s something -” he explains regarding the fuel tank problem, “that doesn’t make us happy and has caused issues in the past.”
“So yes,” he continues, “every now and then, the fuel tank gives us a headache, but we’ll try to put everything together this weekend, hoping the problem doesn’t recur anytime soon,” the Spanish driver concluded.
