F1 – Ferrari: a driver pairing worth more than $100 million
Ferrari has officially confirmed Charles Leclerc’s contract extension, ensuring that the Monegasque driver will remain with the Scuderia for many years to come. As is often the case in Formula 1, the announcement did not include details regarding the length of the agreement or its financial terms, leaving those aspects to speculation and industry estimates.
However, early reports suggest that the new deal further strengthens Ferrari’s position as the most generous team on the Formula 1 grid when it comes to driver salaries. Even before Leclerc’s renewal, the Maranello-based outfit already topped the unofficial rankings for total spending on its driver lineup.
The estimated figures for Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc
Lewis Hamilton, who joined Ferrari ahead of the previous season, is believed to earn approximately €60 million per year. Until now, Charles Leclerc’s salary was estimated to be around €34 million annually, already placing him among the highest-paid drivers in Formula 1, although still below his seven-time world champion teammate.
As is typical with long-term contract extensions, Charles Leclerc’s new agreement reportedly includes a substantial pay rise. The latest estimates suggest that his annual salary could increase to as much as €50 million per season.
If those figures prove accurate, Ferrari would become the first team in Formula 1 history to exceed the €100 million mark in combined salaries for its two race drivers. It would be a symbolic milestone that highlights the growing financial scale of modern Formula 1 and the continued willingness of leading teams to invest heavily in elite talent.
How Ferrari compares to its rivals
To put those numbers into perspective, Red Bull would rank second on the unofficial list, with an estimated total driver salary bill of around €75 million per year. The vast majority of that figure — approximately €70 million — is reportedly allocated to Max Verstappen.
The gap between Ferrari and its closest rivals therefore appears set to grow even further should the estimates surrounding Leclerc’s new contract prove correct.
Beyond the financial implications, the extension reinforces the long-term stability of Ferrari’s driver lineup. By securing both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, the Scuderia has demonstrated its commitment to building its future around two of Formula 1’s biggest stars.
At a time when the sport is entering a new technical era and competition between manufacturers is becoming increasingly intense, Ferrari’s willingness to invest heavily in its drivers underlines the importance it places on experience, speed and leadership.
Whether that record-breaking investment ultimately translates into championship success remains to be seen, but Ferrari has made one thing clear: it is prepared to spare no expense in its pursuit of Formula 1 glory.
