Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will take to the track on 27 and 28 January, while the young drivers of the Ferrari Academy will alternate behind the wheel of the SF71H car from Monday to Friday. Charles Leclerc’s presence is of course conditioned by the COVID-19 negativity. For the Spaniard this will be his debut on the track with the Scuderia, while the young talents called on duty should be Marcus Armstrong, Robert Shwartzman and Giuliano Alesi.
Next week the Fiorano track will therefore host an intense test program. Ferrari will be on track with the SF71H (single-seater with which the Italian side competed in the 2018 Formula 1 World Championship) for a series of tests that will involve both the starting drivers and the young drivers of the Academy.
The duration of the tests should be between four and five days, and according to information gathered by Motorsport.com, they will start on Monday with Marcus Armstrong and Robert Shwartzman, the two FDA drivers who will compete in the Formula 2 championship in 2021.
On 27 and 28 it will be the turn of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc. In the case of the Monegasque, there is still a question mark linked to the physical conditions and Covid negativity that hopefully can arrive until then. For Carlos, the Fiorano test will be the absolute debut at the wheel of a Cavallino single-seater, an always special moment for all the drivers who wore the red overalls.
An important step that comes after intense weeks of activities carried out by the Spaniard in Maranello together with the group of engineers with whom he will work in the 2021 Formula 1 season.
As required by the FIA F1 regulations, track tests with single-seaters from two or more previous seasons involve the use of Pirelli DAT (Driver Academy Tires) tires that differ in construction, compounds and profiles from those used in the World Championship.
Soft, Medium and Hard compounds are available, and in case of rain only the full-wet ones. Giuliano Alesi will also be on the track, (his 2021 plans are not yet known), while it is not yet clear whether Callum Ilott will be present at the testing session.
