Ferrari has announced a major change in its technical department as Ioannis Veloudis, Team Leader of the Front Group, leaves Maranello amid an internal restructuring at the start of the new regulatory cycle. Veloudis confirmed his departure after 15 years with the Scuderia, sharing the news on his LinkedIn profile.
In his message, Ioannis Veloudis reflected on a long and accomplished journey within Ferrari’s aerodynamic department:
“…And this is it. After 15 years with the most legendary team on the grid, it’s time to move on to the next challenge! A huge thanks to the extraordinary group of people I had the pleasure and privilege to work with over all these years. Together, we kept building, evolving, turning ideas into reality, winning races, and even coming close to winning the championship a couple of times! Now, new challenges and exciting times await! Let’s go, bring it on!!”
These words underline not just a professional separation, but the human weight of an experience cultivated at the heart of one of the most complex and high-profile teams in global sport.
Ioannis Veloudis: fifteen years at the heart of Ferrari aerodynamics
Ioannis Veloudis joined Ferrari in 2010, during a period of technical and regulatory transition in Formula 1. With a strong engineering background and specialized training in aerodynamics from university and early motorsport experiences, he started his career at Maranello as an aerodynamicist.
Over the years, he took on increasing responsibilities, focusing on wing development, component interaction, and the complex airflow dynamics in an F1 car. The “Front Group” role he led is strategic in a sport where aerodynamic efficiency has become increasingly central to performance.
His internal growth led him to the position of Team Leader of the Front Group, coordinating a team of engineers and specialists on the aerodynamic development of the car. His tenure coincided with seasons where Ferrari returned to compete for race wins and, on a few occasions, the world championship, as he himself noted by mentioning they came “close to winning the championship a couple of times.”
A farewell amid Ferrari’s 2026 technical restructuring
Veloudis’ departure comes during a broader internal restructuring. Ferrari has been reorganizing its technical operations for months, reviewing workflows, decision-making processes, and departmental responsibilities. This process accelerated under Fred Vasseur, with new appointments such as Loic Serra replacing Enrico Cardile, now at Aston Martin.
As Ferrari prepares for the 2026 regulation cycle, strategic decisions are required. Following a challenging 2025 in terms of competitiveness and technical management, Ferrari aims to enter the new cycle with renewed championship ambitions and a structure capable of rapid development.
Internal rotations and departures of key figures like Veloudis are part of this process, optimizing the design chain. Alongside the Power Unit department, the aerodynamic division is central to this transformation. While Ioannis Veloudis’ exit is significant in terms of expertise and continuity, it is part of a wider transition. Ferrari is reshaping its organizational architecture to enter the new regulatory era with a more integrated and performance-oriented team.
For Ioannis Veloudis, a new professional challenge awaits, while Ferrari continues its path of renewal, aiming to translate structural changes into concrete on-track results. The 2026 season represents not just a regulatory shift, but a true technical and sporting turning point, where every team member will be expected to make a difference.
