Italian journalist Leo Turrini has stirred the already turbulent waters at Ferrari by confirming fresh contacts between Charles Leclerc and another Formula 1 team for the 2027 season. While Ferrari prepares to face the Las Vegas weekend, the noise coming from outside continues to intensify. As the team still struggles to respond to John Elkann’s harsh comments that shook the F1 world, Maranello now has to deal with new rumours about Leclerc being approached for a future move.
The confirmation comes from the authoritative voice of well-known Ferrari insider Leo Turrini, who revealed on his blog Profondo Rosso that repeated discussions have taken place between Leclerc’s manager and senior figures at Aston Martin.
“The fact that Nicolas Todt has been repeatedly contacted in recent times by Aston Martin’s top management is certainly no surprise,” the Italian journalist said. “A good manager has the duty, not just the right, to evaluate every option in the best interest of his client.”
Leo Turrini’s words follow a summer filled with speculation, during which several hints of possible talks between the two sides had emerged. Those rumours later faded, until the fresh statement from the Sky Sport commentator brought the topic back to the forefront — highlighting the potential advantages of a future move to Aston Martin.
“Aston Martin, from 2026, will have a car designed by Newey and a Honda engine. And when we get to 2027 — which is the deadline we’re talking about — Fernando Alonso will be closer to fifty than forty,” Turrini said.
The Italian commentator therefore invites fans to watch carefully how the next few years will unfold, as he believes the driver market could be reshaped by the future decisions of Max Verstappen. As for Charles Leclerc, Leo Turrini shifted attention back to John Elkann’s controversial remarks, which he believes may have increased tension within the Ferrari camp.
“With his statement last week, John Elkann created enormous chaos. It’s unclear whether he did it knowingly or not. Is he already disappointed in Lewis Hamilton after just a few months? Is he preparing a major twist — and if so, there’s only one possible one?”
“Difficult to say. Naturally, I still hope that Ferrari’s 2026 car will be competitive and that Leclerc can finally achieve everything he deserves. But it’s clear we are approaching a crossroads,” he concluded.
