Scuderia Ferrari reverted to the old floors for FP3 on Saturday as expected. Team Principal Mattia Binotto confirmed yesterday that not all new parts of the upgrade package will stay on the car for the rest of the weekend. They want to continue with the modified front wing and rear wing. It seems that the new floor will not be mounted on the car anymore: “It’s not because they are a failure, but because we believe that we need more kilometers to understand them better.” – he explained.
According to AMuS, Mercedes destroys the competition in S3 because they are the only ones who keep the tyres in the window in the first two sectors and then have enough grip for the final sector of the Paul Ricard circuit. Mattia Binotto explains: “We’re falling into understeer. We are doing well in the first two sectors, but we are suffering in the third part of the track, a bit like in Barcelona. But we can do more. How much more, that might only be shown in qualifying.” – Mattia Binotto added.
AMuS also reported that Renault’s Cyril Abiteboul rants about the tyres ahead of the 2019 French Grand Prix: “You spend millions on an upgrade and then you don’t bring the tyres into the window. It’s like a lottery. When we get to the S3 with the soft tyres, the surface of the tyres is too hot. We just slide around.” – he said.
