Ferrari back on track at Mugello for 2026-focused tyre test
After a challenging weekend in Baku, Scuderia Ferrari will be back on track at Mugello for a two-day test organized by Pirelli, aimed at the 2026 Formula 1 season. It was far from an ideal race in Azerbaijan for the Maranello team. Following a promising Friday, both qualifying and the Grand Prix brought Ferrari fans back down to reality, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton finishing only eighth and ninth. For a race that many supporters hoped could deliver Ferrari’s first win of 2025, the final outcome was a disappointment for team principal Frédéric Vasseur and his drivers.
Ferrari returns to action immediately
The Italian team will not have much time to dwell on the frustration of Baku. In the coming days, Ferrari will take part in tyre development tests at the Mugello circuit, where the goal will be to continue evaluating the compounds that Pirelli is preparing for the 2026 Formula 1 season. These tyres will be significantly different from the current specification, making the programme an important step in shaping performance for the future.
The confirmation came directly from Pirelli’s Motorsport Director Mario Isola, who explained the plans at the end of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. “Now we face several test sessions concerning the development of the tyres for 2026. On September 25 and 26, we will be on track with Ferrari and Haas at Mugello, focusing on defining the harder compounds for next season,” Isola stated.
Who will drive for Ferrari at Mugello?
At the moment, it has not yet been announced which Ferrari driver will take part in the Mugello sessions. The official confirmation is expected in the coming days and will depend on the workload of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton back at the Maranello factory. Regardless of who gets behind the wheel, the Mugello tests will represent a valuable opportunity for Ferrari to contribute to shaping the next generation of Formula 1 tyres.
