Ferrari is returning to the forefront of Formula 1, and John Elkann shared the reactions of Maranello’s new technical staff. After years of ups and downs, still far from the F1 championship dream that has been elusive for almost two decades, the Scuderia is making a strong comeback in the elite motorsport scene. The project, led by Frédéric Vasseur, has the right potential, recognized even by engineers from outside the team.
It’s a challenging period for Ferrari in Formula 1. After a solid start to the championship, the performances declined since the Canadian Grand Prix and the Prancing Horse is called to bounce back in the second half of the 2024 Formula 1 campaign. Regardless of the track’s verdict, it’s clear that something at Maranello has definitively changed. This is evident in the communication, of course, but also in the attitude, which is more bold and purely competitive.
The title in the premier category of global motorsport has been missing for (too many) years. But it’s in Ferrari’s DNA, and sooner or later, it will once again ignite the passion of Ferrari fans. John Elkann, interviewed by the Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera, is convinced of this and hasn’t given up on that dream that keeps them up at night. There’s a lot of work to be done, but the project is solid, and the objective is finally clear.
“We always work towards that goal [winning the F1 World Championship] – explains the Ferrari President – This year, we’ve seen progress and also difficulties. We need to continue growing: the key is to find a balance between valuing the many capable people we have here, which I strongly emphasize, and the ability to attract new talent.” – John Elkann pointed out.
Indeed, in recent months, there have been many new key figures that have arrived in Maranello. Not only big names and at this stage without a lot of hopes of signing Adrian Newey, but also many skilled engineers and technicians who aren’t yet in the spotlight: “It was great to hear an engineer who just arrived from Red Bull talk about our potential – says John Elkann – It’s confirmation that there’s a strong desire to join Ferrari.” – the Ferrari President concluded.
