With the 2025 Formula 1 season approaching its conclusion, Ferrari has started to define a clear direction for its next-generation car. As the Maranello-based team looks ahead to the 2026 regulations, several important decisions have already been taken regarding the upcoming project.
Ferrari continues development from the SF-25
Despite a challenging season overall, the recent performances in the United States and Mexico have led Ferrari’s engineers to revise their initial development plans for the 2026 project, internally known as “Project 678.” According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the original plan was to introduce a major revolution in the design of the 2026 single-seater, especially concerning the front and rear suspension systems to comply with the new regulations.
However, the consistent performance achieved with the SF-25 under different load conditions, together with the stability and precision provided by the new front pull-rod suspension, have convinced Ferrari to take a more conservative route. This decision will allow the team to focus its resources on key areas such as aerodynamics, efficiency, and integration with the new power unit — all crucial aspects of Formula 1’s upcoming technical cycle.
Team principal Fred Vasseur has therefore decided not to start from scratch. His goal is to arrive at the first 2026 pre-season tests with a solid and reliable foundation already in place, minimizing the risk of design errors and aiming for steady, progressive development. This approach reflects Fred Vasseur’s full confidence in the team’s internal capabilities and the direction taken during the final stages of the 2025 season.
