Formula 1 is heading into the decisive final phase of 2025. The championship will be decided across eight remaining races: Azerbaijan, Singapore, Austin, Mexico, Brazil, Las Vegas, Qatar and, finally, Abu Dhabi. The Drivers’ Championship battle is a McLaren internal affair, while the Woking-based team is practically certain of securing the Constructors’ crown once again. It marks another season of total dominance for McLaren, repeating last year’s triumph and bringing the ground-effect era to a close on their terms.
Behind the two Papaya cars, however, the fight remains intense. Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes are locked in a three-way battle for second place in the Constructors’ standings, and Ferrari currently hold the advantage. Yuki Tsunoda and Andrea Kimi Antonelli have not shown the same level of performance as their respective teammates, a positive sign for Ferrari. By contrast, the Maranello squad can rely on Lewis Hamilton, who was finally close to Charles Leclerc’s pace at Monza, giving the team a strong two-driver line-up.
Vasseur: Ferrari’s main goal is the Constructors’ Championship
In the Constructors’ standings, Ferrari have a twenty-point lead over Mercedes and a forty-one point advantage over Red Bull. Frédéric Vasseur made it clear, as reported by Auto Motor und Sport, that the priority is to lock down second place: “The position in the Constructors’ Championship has priority. Winning [a Grand Prix] is secondary.”
The team principal of the Prancing Horse admitted that there will be some circuits that suit the SF-25, such as Azerbaijan or Las Vegas. However, defeating McLaren is not on Ferrari’s immediate agenda. Instead, the team must first focus on fending off the pressure from Brackley and Milton Keynes to secure their place as the second force in Formula 1 this season.
