Ferrari closes the door on Christian Horner and reaffirms full trust in Frédéric Vasseur, with an eye on Max Verstappen’s future. The rumors circulating in recent days across international media have no foundation. The Scuderia will not be changing its team principal, at least not before seeing the 2026 Formula 1 car hit the track. The team needs unity, and next season leaves no room for mistakes.
It has been a tense few weeks in Maranello. Disappointing performances and Mercedes overtaking Ferrari in the Constructors’ Championship have created a perfect storm. Reports in the media have spoken of internal tensions, criticism directed at the “track group,” and even discussions at board level about Frédéric Vasseur’s position. The Scuderia now needs something concrete to restore calm and confidence in an environment that is clearly under pressure.
Fueling further instability are the rumors, originating from the United Kingdom and rapidly spreading worldwide, suggesting new contacts between Ferrari and Christian Horner. The former Red Bull team principal is reportedly exploring new opportunities, and few believe he will stay away from Formula 1 for long. However, sources within Maranello have firmly denied the speculation — as confirmed by journalist Daniele Sparisci in Corriere della Sera — insisting there is no truth behind these stories.
Horner and Ferrari, a deal that makes little sense
There is no question about Christian Horner’s talent and leadership skills, but several obstacles stand in the way of any potential collaboration with Ferrari. It is believed that Horner is seeking a senior executive position with significant authority and control over all decision-making — a role similar to Toto Wolff’s at Mercedes, potentially including equity in the company. Such a structure, however, clashes with Ferrari’s traditional management style and the team’s current organizational philosophy.
Another complicating factor is Max Verstappen. The four-time world champion has a difficult relationship with his former boss, making it hard to imagine a reunion at Maranello. By renewing its confidence in Frédéric Vasseur, Ferrari indirectly keeps the door open to Verstappen, who could leave Red Bull at the end of the 2026 season. Should that happen, every team on the grid will compete for his signature — and Ferrari intends to be among the contenders.
