Scuderia Ferrari will focus heavily on the 2022 Formula 1 season, the year in which the new technical / sporting regulation will come into play which on paper should allow Mercedes’ competitors to reduce the gap that currently exists on the track. Among the rivals of Mercedes, who since the beginning of the hybrid era has monopolized Formula One, collecting victories and titles, there is also Ferrari who wants to be ready for the challenge next year.
The Italian side’s Team Principal Mattia Binotto has in fact admitted that Ferrari has 2022 in its sights, given that in 2021 the margins for development and improvement of the car are small as the SF21 will be similar to the previous care, the Ferrari SF1000.
So despite its ambitions, Scuderia Ferrari’s focus is not directly on 2021. “2022 is more important than 2021, because then we move into a new era with different race cars. Then we have to be able to compete at the front. If in 2022 you already have to start the season with a gap, then in 2023 it will be even harder to close that gap. So the development of the 2022 race car is a priority for us.” – the Ferrari boss explained.
