The Maranello team has recovered the performance lost due to the introduction of the FIA’s new static checks on front wings. The endplate has been redesigned to adopt a Mercedes-style flow diverter.
The Ferrari engineers and technicians did not limit themselves to redesigning the front wing to comply with the new technical checks imposed by the FIA from the Spanish GP to reduce flexing. Diego Tondi‘s aerodynamics group also intervened in the design of the components to recover the downforce potentially lost due to the new regulations.
In fact, in addition to changing the orientation of the carbon fiber used in the construction of the individual elements that make up the front wing, the team worked extensively on the side endplate area: the lower portion at the trailing edge was removed to increase the outwash effect. Moreover, on the SF-25, we also see the introduction of a concept developed by Mercedes, with two small flow diverters located at the junction between the last two flaps and the endplate, in an attempt to clean up the wake of the front wheel and reduce harmful turbulence.
Following the concept already seen in Monaco, the Prancing Horse team brought back the medium-high downforce 2024 wing, revised and updated with external mounts for the movable flap that follow this season’s design, aiming to generate downforce without too much loss in efficiency.
Ferrari has learned to optimize costs within the budget cap by reusing aerodynamic solutions from the SF-24 that do not weigh on the SF-25’s development. In Maranello, they are awaiting the most important updates: floor and diffuser, along with the much-anticipated rear suspension. A race against time has begun in an effort to bring forward the debut of upgrades meant to close the gap to McLaren.
