Ferrari, Red Bull, Mercedes, low downforce rear wing comparison in Baku | 2022 Azerbaijan GP. Low downforce rear wing comparison in Baku.

With a straight of 2200 meters and many other sections of the Baku City Circuit where top speed is very important, the teams obviously brought very low aerodynamic rear wings for the 2022 Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend.

The configuration is similar to the one that was chosen for the Miami Grand Prix a month ago at the beginning of May on the occasion of the fifth race of the championship. But unlike what happened in Florida, the Azerbaijani track does not have wide-ranging technical corners, as was the case in the first sector of the circuit built around the Hard Rock Stadium. Obviously the wings have only minimal adjustments compared to the ones already used in Saudi Arabia since due to the budget cap it is not possible to present specific elements for each Grand Prix of the 2022 Formula 1 season.

In addition to the wings it will be interesting to know what the decisions of the teams will be regarding the power unit. Max Verstappen is still using the first power unit with all four components (thermal V6 engine, turbo, MGU-H and MGU-K) while Charles Leclerc and Ferrari will most likely introduce turbo and MGU-H number three.

Below is the overview of the rear wings of Scuderia Ferrari, Mercedes, Red Bull, McLaren and other teams in the tweets published by the Spanish journalist Albert Fabrega. In the comparison it is interesting to note the differences in wing profiles, the ‘step’ towards the outside is very marked in the case of Ferrari, Aston Martin, Haas and Red Bull, while Mercedes does not have this characteristic.
