Formula One has announced an agreement to stage a race in Miami from next season. A Miami Grand Prix has been in the pipeline for a number of years following the acquisition of the sport by an American conglomerate, Liberty Media, in 2017.
After a series of setbacks, a 10-year deal to race at the Hard Rock Stadium – home to the Miami Dolphins NFL team – was confirmed as teams prepared for Sunday’s Emilia Romagna GP. The round in Miami, the first in the sport’s history, will be second F1 race to be staged in the United States after Austin’s Circuit of the Americas, a fixture on the calendar since 2012.
Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto shares his thoughts on the 2022 Miami GP:
“We are delighted that has added a new Grand Prix in the USA, a country where there is great untapped potential interest for this sport and which represents a very important market for our road cars.”
“This event in Miami will certainly be fascinating, taking place in one of the most iconic cities in the USA. This news is yet another sign of the growth and vitality of and the increasing interest it is generating around the world.” – the Ferrari boss concluded.
