Scuderia Ferrari mounted several sensors on the F1-75 car of Carlos Sainz during the second free practice session for the 2022 Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the Yas Marina circuit, with the goal of collecting final pieces of data for its 2023 car, as reported by F1 tech expert Paolo Filisetti and reported by RacingNews365.
The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend represents not only the final round of the current F1 campaign, but at the same time it is the final chance to trial some updates and solutions on the track, in the hope of gathering positive feedback and then using them for the 2023 Formula 1 cars.
As a result it has become common practice among most of the teams to use aero sensors on the cars and collect as much data as possible on track before the long winter break. Scuderia Ferrari was also focused on this and carried out an important data collection in the second free practice session for the Abu Dhabi GP at the Yas Marina circuit with Carlos Sainz, whose F1-75 challenger was seen heavily instrumented with an intricate network of sensors mounted on rakes behind the rear wheels. Its purpose was to measure the pressure of the air flow leaving the diffuser and behind the rear wheels.
The lower side has been modified in the area in front of them, with the function of managing turbulence in the area between the inside of the rear wheels and the diffuser in a different way from what happened during the season.

As explained by Paolo Filisetti, these are not major updates, but could still be useful because they are able to increase the effectiveness of the underbody by generating more downforce and reducing drag, which is the Maranello team’s main goal for the 2023 Formula 1 season.
