Scuderia Ferrari has officially confirmed that the Maranello team is ready to begin a testing session which will run through to Friday, after postponing it yesterday, as Ferrari waits for further clarifications from the FIA regarding the possibility of using the 2020 Formula 1 cars for such private testing sessions.
It was previously understood that this ban would be lifted for 2022, thus offering teams the possibility of better preparing for the radically different rules which will be introduced this season. However, the fact that this possibility has not yet been included in the sporting regulations made some teams raise objections. As reported earlier today by Italian daily newspaper Corriere dello Sport, Haas would have driven the 2021 car in Bahrain without incurring any protest from other teams.

In the meanwhile, the Ferrari mechanics have finalized preparation of a 2018 SF71H and this afternoon, the car will be on track and, as per the original schedule, it falls to Robert Shwartzman to kick off proceedings. Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc will be in action tomorrow at the Fiorano circuit, with the Spaniard going first. In fact, it was at the wheel of an SF71H that he completed his first laps in a Ferrari Formula 1 car, back on 27 January 2021. The Monegasque will drive in the afternoon, while on Friday, Robert Shwartzman will be back to complete the test.
Scuderia Ferrari will officially launch its 2022 Formula One car on February 17, just a few days before the first pre-season testing session at the Circuit de Catalunya.
