The 2023 Formula 1 season, despite being just in its second half, has certainly not been satisfying for Ferrari, which hoped to maintain the performances it had achieved at least in the first part of 2022. Instead, only three podiums have been achieved, all by Charles Leclerc, and a series of negative results. However, from Zandvoort, where the Dutch Grand Prix is underway, Technical Director Enrico Cardile wanted to give a signal of hope for 2024: “We have identified the shortcomings of the 2023 project to address and not repeat,” he said to Sky Sport’s microphones. “As a team, we feel the responsibility to put on track a product that is capable of winning and giving us the satisfaction we have been pursuing for years.” – the Italian pointed out ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix weekend.
Ferrari, Enrico Cardile: “Identified the Issues of the SF-23”
“It was clear right from the tests what the gaps were and what was missing to have a competitive car. The correspondence with the driver simulator and the wind tunnel was good from the start, and through the analysis after the tests, we reached a conclusion,” Enrico Cardile emphasized, explaining that the Maranello team now faces a new challenge: “The problem is no longer understanding what’s missing, but bringing to the track as soon as possible a car that addresses the issues the SF-23 has. During the development of this car, we realized that with the architectural choices made in continuity with the previous year’s car, we have limitations. We are limited in the goals we have set to improve the car.”
Lastly, Enrico Cardile outlined the areas the Maranello team has focused on for 2024: “We have designed next year’s car differently: it will be a car with a different chassis and rear end from what we have this year, and everything is aimed at allowing the aerodynamicists to extract the performance that is missing in the current car.” – he concluded.
