The great anticipation for the Imola weekend certainly revolves around Scuderia Ferrari. The team led by Frederic Vasseur chose its home race to introduce the first aerodynamic package of the 2024 Formula 1 season with the goal of competing with Red Bull. Enrico Gualtieri, Technical Director of the Power Unit, explained why Ferrari decided to introduce the updates specifically at Imola and provided an initial assessment following Friday’s track action in Italy.
In the first free practice session at the circuit dedicated to Enzo and Dino Ferrari, the SF-24 EVO performed well, with Charles Leclerc finishing in first position. The Monegasque driver demonstrated good speed both in qualifying laps and in terms of race pace, marking a positive start to the weekend.
Enrico Gualtieri comments on the new package
However, Enrico Gualtieri sought to temper the enthusiasm surrounding the new package. “I can’t say much about the updates; it’s premature to make comments after just one session. We decided to bring the new package here since we’re back to the original format. It’s only the beginning of the weekend, but so far we have met our program expectations,” said the Technical Director of the Power Unit.

“We need to analyze the data ahead of FP2 and then we’ll make our first assessments tonight,” Enrico Gualtieri added. “We know that with three free practice sessions, everyone has their own specific program. We are focused on ours and need to concentrate on maximizing the free practice sessions.” – he concluded.
