Ferrari is already looking ahead to the British Grand Prix after a difficult weekend in Austria, with Maranello preparing another package of upgrades aimed at improving the SF-26’s straight-line speed. Following the clear performance deficit shown at the Red Bull Ring, the Scuderia is hoping its latest developments will help close the gap to Mercedes and Red Bull at Silverstone.
Ferrari searching for more top speed
The Austrian Grand Prix exposed Ferrari’s lack of power in particularly harsh fashion. The performance deficit to its rivals was so evident that even competing drivers admitted they were surprised by the gap between Ferrari’s power unit and those used by Mercedes and Red Bull.
At the Red Bull Ring, Ferrari introduced the first upgrades to its power unit by deploying the initial phase of its “ADUO-1” package. While the results were not especially encouraging, it is worth remembering that Austria’s high altitude may have amplified certain weaknesses, including the fact that the SF-26 is believed to run a smaller turbocharger than its main competitors.
The Scuderia’s aggressive development programme has also become a talking point in the Formula 1 paddock. Fernando Alonso joked about the number of upgrades being introduced by rival teams, while Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff publicly questioned how Ferrari continues to bring so many new components under the budget cap.
More upgrades planned for Silverstone
According to reports from the Italian website AutoRacer.it, Ferrari’s development programme is far from over. For the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, the Scuderia is expected to introduce a revised Macarena wing along with a new low-drag diffuser. Changes to the exhaust system could also be part of the upcoming package.
The objective is clear: improve top speed on one of the fastest circuits on the Formula 1 calendar while taking advantage of Silverstone’s high-speed corners, which should continue to highlight one of the SF-26’s strongest assets—its chassis performance. Ferrari hopes the latest upgrades will provide the extra performance needed to challenge more consistently at the front as the championship moves into its next phase.
