Australian Daniel Ricciardo won the Italian Grand Prix in a stunning McLaren one-two at Monza while Scuderia Ferrari could only manage P4 with Charles Leclerc and P6 with Carlos Sainz, thus losing third place in the Formula 1 Constructor Standings at the end of the 2021 Italian Grand Prix.
The Maranello team expected a difficult weekend in front of its home fans, but the unexpected result of McLaren, who took advantage of the crash between championship leaders Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, will make thinks difficult for Ferrari in the remaining eight rounds of the 2021 Formula 1 season. While at the same time remembering that the Italian side’s main target is to focus on the development work for 2022, when Ferrari hopes to be able to fight for more important results:
“McLaren has adapted well to this type of track.” – Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto explained, at the end of the 2021 Italian Grand Prix at Monza – “They had already done well here last year. Congratulations to them again, they had a great weekend. I think the situation in the Constructor standings can still be reversed. We will always give our best and there are still some tracks where we believe we can do well, we will get there.” – the Ferrari boss added.
Mattia Binotto then pointed out the power unit deficit which did not allow Scuderia Ferrari to challenge McLaren, Red Bull and Mercedes at the Monza track: “We have a deficit of 20 HP, I think we have seen it today on track. But we must not lose morale, we are also working on this in view of next season. We’re at a good point. Too bad we lost important points, but it was a solid race that must give us confidence. Overall it was a good race.” – Scuderia Ferrari Team Principal Mattia Binotto concluded.
