Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz was three tenths down on teammate Charles Leclerc’s time in the second free practice session for the 2021 United States Grand Prix, but is not overly concerned as the Spaniard’s qualifying simulation was ruined in the final by some traffic encountered in the third sector. “I am happy with our Friday and the pace is promising considering that I had traffic in the third sector during my fastest lap and I was unable to complete a lap that would otherwise have been very good” – Carlos explained at the end of the second free practice session on Friday.
Overall Carlos Sainz is satisfied with the work done, between the bumps at the Circuit of the Americas: “The asphalt has become more bumpy over the years, but I think this is now a feature of the circuit and is a challenge for cars and drivers” – the analysis of Carlos Sainz warns of the high degradation of the soft compound: “The temperatures on the track today were very high, which obviously had an effect on the long runs, in which the degradation on the Soft tyre manifested itself quickly. This can make things difficult on Sunday, so it is a factor that must be taken into great consideration” – the Ferrari driver added.
It is therefore essential to overcome the cut in Q2 today in qualifying with the medium compound, so as not to have to use the red band tires in the race. A performance that may not be so obvious in light of the close gaps in the in the midfield behind Mercedes and Red Bull.
