Former Scuderia Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel has officially confirmed he will put an end to his Formula 1 career after the 2022 championship. The four-time Formula 1 world champion spent six seasons with Ferrari after joining the Italian team in 2015, before moving to Aston Martin in 2021, where he will see out the remainder of his final campaign.
Sebastian Vettel is currently third on the list of all-time Grand Prix winners with 53 victories, trailing only Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher. For the Maranello team he secured 14 wins, fighting for the world title in 2017 and 2018:
“The decision to retire has been a difficult one for me to take, and I have spent a lot of time thinking about it,” said Vettel, who confirmed his retirement in a video posted on Instagram earlier today – “At the end of the year I want to take some more time to reflect on what I will focus on next; it is very clear to me that, being a father, I want to spend more time with my family.
News of Sebastian Vettel’s plan to retire from Formula 1 at the end of the current campaign was met with widespread sadness across the sport’s fanbase and paddock community. Scuderia Ferrari also wanted to pay tribute to its former driver with a message posted on its Twitter and Instagram accounts:
