2010: Fernando Alonso wins his first Monza race for Ferrari
Fernando Alonso won the Italian Grand Prix during his first season with the Scuderia. Felipe Massa finished third, giving Ferrari two drivers on the podium at its home race.
The victory became part of Fernando Alonso’s 2010 championship challenge and established an early highlight of his Ferrari career.
2004: Rubens Barrichello leads Michael Schumacher home
Six years earlier, Rubens Barrichello won at Monza on 12 September, with Michael Schumacher finishing second. The result delivered a Ferrari one-two in front of the tifosi.
Both championships had already been secured before that race. Monza therefore added a home celebration to an exceptionally successful Ferrari season.
1976: Niki Lauda returns to the cockpit
Niki Lauda raced at Monza just six weeks after his serious accident at the Nürburgring. He finished fourth, while Clay Regazzoni took second and Carlos Reutemann ninth.
The result remains significant for the circumstances of his return, rather than for a victory. It brought Niki Lauda back into competition during a championship battle that continued to the final round.
